Residents of Balkh Districts Call for Building of Bridge

Residents of Chamtal and Chaharbolok districts of Balkh province complained about the lack of a bridge between the districts and the provincial capital city.

The residents are obliged to even transfer their vehicles via boat.

The residents said that they are forced to cross the river via boat because of the lack of a bridge.

“There was a situation when a pregnant woman gave birth here. We lost our wounded on the way,” said Jalaluddin, a resident of Chamtal district.

“There have been some days when the boat sank with car and children,” said Abdul Satar, a resident of Chamtal district.

"Sometimes, when there is rain and snow, the path gets very difficult, the car cannot be carried with the boat and the residents face many challenges,” said Abdul Halim, a resident of Chaharbolok district.

The local officials confirmed that the residents are facing severe challenges as they are unable to cross without a boat.

According to the officials, crossing the bridge is not possible during the night.

“This boat is being used to cross the river, but the problem is, this is not during the night. We ask the officials of the Islamic Emirate to address the problem,” said Norullah Humam, district governor of Chamtal.

“We call on the Islamic Emirate to solve this problem and create us facilities,” said Ahmad Jan, a tribal elder.

The officials in Balkh province also said that they would address the problem.

"We are trying to address every problem within our capacity. The problem of the people will be solved,” said Noorulhadi Abu Idris, deputy governor of Balkh.

The Chamtal and Charbolok districts of Balkh have faced severe war over the past several years and currently many residents of the districts are faced with the lack of living facilities.
