Meeting of Afghanistan's Neighbors Begins in Samarkand

The 4th meeting of the Neighbouring Countries of Afghanistan began today in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, with the presence of Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister of the Islamic Emirate, and representatives of more than eight neighboring countries of Afghanistan.

The ministers of some nations voiced concerns about the existence of terrorist groups and the cultivation and trafficking of drugs, the humanitarian and economic crises, and the rise in Afghan migrants in other nations.

“The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, led a delegation to Uzbekistan at the official invitation of Uzbekistan today, Thursday,” said Zia Ahmad Takal, deputy spokesman of the Foreign Ministry.

On the sidelines, ministers pledged to work with Afghanistan in the areas of security, prosperity, and development as well as other areas.

The foreign ministers of Iran, China, Russia, and Pakistan spoke about the issue of women's employment and education on the sideline of the meeting.

"China is ready to step up coordination and cooperation with Afghanistan's neighbors and the international community to help Afghanistan embark on the path of stable development at an early date and jointly achieve lasting security, prosperity and progress in the region,” said Wang Wenbin, China's foreign ministry spokesperson.

Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Islamic Emirate's acting foreign minister, talked to the foreign ministers of China and Iran on the sidelines of the meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighbors.

"Nearby nations are important, and if the outcomes of the meetings are not competitive and reactionary, they might be effective for solving national and international difficulties in the country," said political analyst Sayed Muqadam Amin.

The first meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighbors was held in Pakistan, the second in Iran, and the third meeting was held in China.
