Energy Ministry, Turkish Company to Collaborate on Wind Power Project

On Tuesday the Ministry of Energy and Water and the head of 77 Construction Company signed a memorandum of collaboration for a project to provide 200 megawatts of wind-powered electricity.

According to the agreement, the work on the project in the province of Herat will be finished in two years.

"The agreement for 200 MW of wind power that was signed today will be active within the next two years. Practical actions should be taken as soon as feasible,” said the president of 77 Construction Company, Suleyman Ciliv.

According to Farhad Mahmoudi, director of energy projects at the Ministry of Energy and Water, the cost of wind projects per megawatt is estimated to be between $1 million to $1.5 million worldwide.

"Wind power projects in different parts of the world have different prices, it is estimated to be from 1 to 1.5 million dollars per megawatt," Mahmoudi stated.

The acting minister of energy and water, Abdul Latif Mansour, said that the conditions for investment in different sectors in Afghanistan have been provided.

Mansour asked domestic and foreign investors to invest in Afghanistan's energy sector.

"Those companies and investors who have invested outside the country should get funds from their companies to invest in the country,” Mansour noted.

This Turkish company earlier invested $160 million dollars to improve the Kajaki Dam's capacity for electricity generation up to 100 megawatts, and for water storage.
