Islamic Emirate Participates in Intl Union of Railways Meeting in Turkey

The technical meeting of the Middle East section of the International Union of Railways was held in Türkiye with the presence of representatives of the Islamic Emirate.

Abdul Sami Durrani, spokesman of the Afghanistan Railway Authority, said that in this meeting the member countries pledged to cooperate with Afghanistan in the development of railways.

“In the meeting, member countries pledged to cooperate with Afghanistan in the development of railways, regional connections, and employee training,” said Abdul Sami Durrani.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce and Investment said that the expansion of railways will reduce the cost of transporting commercial goods in the country.

“If this is done, we can get 2-2.5 billion dollars annually from this transit of Central Asian and South Asian countries,” said Khanjan Alokozai, a member of the ACCI.

Some traders said the expansion of the railway will be beneficial for the growth of the country's exports.

“Railways are one of the most essential elements for our country's exports, increasing exports and finally bringing our products to international markets…,” said Mahboob Ullah Mohammadi, a trader.

Currently, Afghanistan is connected to Iran, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan by railway, and it is expected to be connected with Pakistan with the implementation of the Afghanistan-Trans railway project.
