Ministry: 100,000 Dropped From List of Orphans, Disabled, Martyrs' Families

The Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled said that more than one hundred thousand individuals who were receiving funds because they are orphans, have disabilities, or are family members of martyrs have been found and taken off the ministry's list.

According to ministry officials, those who were removed were not eligible and they cannot receive funds anymore.

The ministry's administrative and financial director, Kalimullah Afghan, reported that some disabled persons' salaries had also fallen as a result of cuts to the budget.

"Some of the people whose names were registered during the previous government, their names were removed either because they were forged or too old -- an orphan can only be up to eighteen years old,” Afghan said to TOLOnews.

Meanwhile, some disabled people complained about the challenges they face.

“They paid us six months' salary and did not give us the rest. We all need money. We ask the government to pay the aid to the disabled people,” Sayed Zakaria, who lost his leg as a result of the civil war, told TOLOnews.

Other individuals with disabilities worried about salary reductions and asked the Islamic Emirate to not reduce their salaries.

“They [the government] have reduced the pensions of the disabled, they are paying half of the pension,” said Sakina, a disabled person.

“We are facing economic challenges. There are six people in my family. It is difficult to pay for our living expenses,” said Abdul Wali, a disabled person.

Based on the figures of the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled, over 600,000 orphans, disabled and family members of martyrs are registered with this ministry.
