Drivers and passengers on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway stated that the closure of this highway has caused them difficulties.
They requested that the authorities reopen this highway as soon as possible.
The Kabul-Jalalabad highway has been blocked due to a landslide, and drivers are using a detour through the Mahipar area.
“The Islamic Emirate and officials should fix this road before rocks fall from the mountain,” Abuzar, a driver on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway, told a TOLOnews reporter.
Mashal, a passenger on this highway, stated: “This is not the first time; it has happened several times that rocks have fallen from the mountain and passengers face problems. We especially ask the Ministry of Public Works to fix this road and do a substantial job.”
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works, said: “Last night, due to a landslide 30 kilometers from the Kabul gate, the main route of the highway was temporarily blocked to traffic, but traffic is flowing through an alternate route previously constructed by the Ministry of Public Works.”
The head of the road cleaning and reopening company has stated that the cleaning of the blocked road has begun and it may be reopened in the next two days.
Bawarkhan Babakarkhail, the company official, said: “This road has been closed since yesterday afternoon. The rainfall has blocked the road. We are currently busy, and God willing, it will be freed in the next two or three days.”
The Ministry of Public Works also stated that due to rainfall and flooding in Takhar, Badakhshan, Nuristan, Parwan, Ghor, Uruzgan, and Kandahar, several routes were temporarily blocked to traffic but have been reopened after clearing.
