Azerbaijani Ambassador, Defense Minister Seek Stronger Bilateral Ties

The acting Minister of Defense Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, in a meeting with the ambassador of Azerbaijan to Afghanistan, called for the creation of stronger relations between Kabul and Baku.

Enayatullah Khwarizmi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, told TOLOnews that in this meeting, Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid requested Azerbaijan to start cooperation in various sectors with Afghanistan to strengthen the relations between the two countries.

Ilham Mahmmadov, Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Afghanistan, also said that his country is ready to expand cooperation with the Islamic Emirate and the people of Afghanistan.

The Acting Minister of Defense called the reopening of the Azerbaijan embassy in Afghanistan a positive action.

Enayatullah Khwarizmi added, "We desire to start economic, commercial, and other sectors' cooperation as soon as possible. The Ambassador of Azerbaijan also expressed gratitude for the trust and cooperation of the Islamic Emirate regarding the opening of his country's embassy in Kabul and said that while strengthening relations, we are ready to expand cooperation with the Islamic Emirate and the people of this country."

According to the spokesman of the Ministry, Ilham Mahmmadov said that Azerbaijan is ready to expand cooperation with the Islamic Emirate and the people of Afghanistan.

A number of political analysts said that the expansion of relations between Kabul and Baku would benefit both countries.

"We should strive to have a balanced and independent policy. Currently, we cannot align ourselves closely with one bloc, because if we do, we might see the reaction of another bloc," Moeen Gul Samkanai, a political analyst, told TOLOnews.

"We can have good economic relations. Afghanistan can import gas and oil from there, and in return, we can export agricultural products and dried fruits from Afghanistan to there," said Ahmad Sir Qureshi, an economic analyst.

Azerbaijan started operations at its embassy in Afghanistan on March 22, 2024; a move that was welcomed by the Islamic Emirate.
