Over 6,000 Families Displaced by Floods in Baghlan

Recent floods in Baghlan have displaced over six thousand families.

The spokesperson for the governor of this province, Alam Majidi, said that the operation to search for missing bodies is ongoing, but the number of missing persons has not yet been determined.

According to him, some aid shipments from various provinces and aid organizations have reached the flood victims in Baghlan.

The spokesperson for the governor of Baghlan, Alam Majidi, said: “More than 6,000 families have been displaced as a result of the floods in Baghlan. Health services are being provided to these families by various teams.”

On the other hand, several of the affected families are requesting the interim government and aid agencies to build shelters for them. Residents of Sheikh Jalal village told TOLOnews reporters that the floods on Friday, in addition to causing loss of life, have also destroyed their possessions.

Sheikh Jalal village is located 15 kilometers from Baghlan Markazi district.  According to local residents, more than 40 people have died due to the floods in this village.

Hafizullah, one of the flood victims in Baghlan, said: “We buried 43 people from this location alone. The floods have taken people’s homes, cars, and lives.”

Abdul Sattar, another flood victim in Baghlan, told TOLOnews reporters: “Our request to the government is to help us. We have nothing and are in need of assistance.”

Abdul Wadood, another affected individual, said: “They should build us a place that is flood-resistant and away from the flood zone. We had agricultural lands and were farmers, all destroyed.”

Meanwhile, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) recently stated that following the floods in Afghanistan, approximately 40,000 children in northern Afghanistan have lost their homes.
