As a result of deadly floods in Faryab and Badghis, nearly seventy people have lost their lives.
These floods have also destroyed hundreds of homes and thousands of acres of agricultural land.
According to local officials, the floods have affected the districts of Belcharagh, Chehlgazi, Qaisar, Almar, Khwaja Sabz Posh, Pashtun Kot, Qurghan, and the outskirts of Maimana city.
Shamsuddin Mohammadi, the head of Information and Culture in Faryab, said: “People are still busy retrieving bodies from under the rubble and walls, and the death toll may rise.”
Izzatullah, a resident of Faryab, said: “People went up to the mountains to save themselves.”
Meanwhile, flood victims in Ghor are also worried about their difficult living conditions.
They say they are without bread and shelter and are living in very harsh conditions.
The intensity of the floods around the historic Minaret of Jam in Ghor has raised concerns about the potential destruction of this 800-year-old monument.
Abdul Wahid Hamas, the spokesperson for the governor of Ghor, said: “The retaining walls might be destroyed, and the minaret, which is an 800-year-old historical monument, could collapse.”
Abdul Hakim, a resident of Firozkoh city, said: “We worked hard for several years to build a house, and the floods destroyed it. Now we are homeless.”
Meanwhile, floods and storms in Badghis claimed the lives of three people. These floods have destroyed dozens of homes and hundreds of acres of agricultural land.
Siddiqullah Siddiqi, the spokesperson for the Badghis police command, said: “According to preliminary information, as a result of last night's floods in Badghis province, three people have died, and this number may increase.”
The deadly floods in Faryab occurred two days after the devastating floods in Ghor.
According to local officials in Ghor, 52 people have died in these floods, and several are still missing.
