Lack of Resources Hinders Search for Missing in Flood-Hit Faryab

Due to a lack of advanced equipment, five residents of Belcheragh District in Faryab remain missing.

Local residents informed TOLOnews that with only basic tools, they have managed to recover more than forty bodies in the past three days.

Ziaul Haq, a resident of Belcheragh District, Faryab, said: "We rescued four people alive; they were alive until four in the morning, but we didn't have a doctor to treat them or provide oxygen."

The pain and suffering of losing twelve family members weighs heavily on this man’s shoulders.

Mohammad Sakhi, a 45-year-old resident of Qurchi village in Belcheragh District, lost twelve family members in the deadly floods three days ago. Mohammad Sakhi stated that with basic tools and the help of local residents, he has so far recovered the bodies of nine family members, but three others are still missing.

"Twelve people were missing, we recovered nine bodies, and three are still buried under the rubble. When the flood came, I wasn't here," Mohammad Sakhi said.

However, local Faryab officials, acknowledging the challenges faced by the residents of Belcheragh District, are calling for assistance from the central government and aid organizations.

Shamsuddin Mohammadi, Director of Information and Culture of Faryab, told TOLOnews: "We don't have a lot of resources, but efforts are being made to use whatever we have."

Three days have passed since the devastating floods hit Qurchi village in Belcheragh District, Faryab, and some families have yet to recover the bodies of their missing loved ones.
