Officials from Zabul Traffic Management told TOLOnews that eighty percent of drivers on the Kabul-Kandahar highway do not have a driver's license.
According to the officials, to reduce traffic incidents on the Kabul-Kandahar route, they have begun the process of evaluating all drivers' documents.
Ismatullah Obaid, Zabul Traffic Manager, said: "These checkpoints are permanent, and we ask people every day whether they have a license or not. We do not allow those under eighteen to drive."
Abdul Habib, a traffic police officer, said: "Approximately eighty percent of drivers neither have a license nor documents. We are trying to provide them with the necessary documents."
Every day, one to three traffic incidents occur on the Kabul-Kandahar highway.
Drivers on this highway are calling for more measures to prevent traffic accidents.
Hafiz Ahmad, a driver, told TOLOnews: "Everyone should be cautious, and whoever travels on this highway should follow the law."
Sher Ahmad, another driver, said: "Traffic incidents happen due to drivers' carelessness."
Based on information from Zabul Traffic Management, many traffic incidents on the Kabul-Kandahar highway occur due to drivers' negligence, especially excessive speed and not following traffic rules.
