Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, said that after reviewing the agenda of the third Doha meeting, the Islamic Emirate will participate if the agenda proves to be beneficial for Afghanistan.
Zabihullah Mujahid also said that in the upcoming Doha meeting, there should be discussions on greater engagement with the Islamic Emirate, lifting restrictions on interim government officials, and addressing key issues concerning Afghanistan.
Zabihullah Mujahid, told TOLOnews: “We are reviewing it, and if it is in Afghanistan's interest, we will undoubtedly participate. However, if Afghanistan's conditions are not considered and these meetings are held to portray Afghanistan as chaotic and disorganized, we will certainly not participate.”
Mujahid further explained that they chose not to participate in the previous Doha meeting because their demands were not met.
These demands included exclusive representation of Afghanistan by the Islamic Emirate, a separate high-level meeting between the acting foreign minister and the UN Secretary-General, avoiding discussions on Afghanistan's internal issues, and other specific conditions.
Mujahid added: “Previously, one of the conditions was that only the Islamic Emirate should represent Afghanistan to ensure the unity of Afghanistan is portrayed in that meeting. This was very important.”
Some political analysts say that if the representative of the Islamic Emirate does not attend the third Doha meeting, it will be as unproductive as the previous meetings.
“The Taliban have demanded that before the meeting is held, unlike the second meeting, there should be an agreement on major issues,” said Moeen Gul Samkani, a political analyst.
“It is a crucial and decisive meeting, but only if the Islamic Emirate itself participates and accepts the legitimate demands of the international community, which are also in line with the wishes of the Afghan people,” said Zakiullah Mohammadi, a political analyst.
Previously, the political deputy of the Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister stated in a meeting with the Qatari delegation that their effective participation in the third Doha meeting is conditional on the acceptance of the Islamic Emirate's demands.
