Transport Ministry to Collect Vehicle Seats Not Meeting Safety Code

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation announced a new plan to collect non-standard and extra seats from vehicles in Kabul city and provincial areas.

Imamuddin Ahmadi, the ministry spokesperson, said that this plan has been initiated by the Urban Transport Directorate and is set to be implemented on all routes in Kabul city as well as inter-provincial routes.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation sais: "It is observed on the roads that drivers have placed extra seats in their vehicles, which causes inconvenience and harassment to people. The Urban Transport Directorate of Kabul city has begun the collection of extra and non-standard seats."

Ahmadi stated that the purpose of this initiative is to prevent drivers from breaking the law and to provide convenience for citizens, adding that this process will also be carried out on inter-provincial routes leading to Kabul.

Imamuddin Ahmadi also said: "Vehicles traveling to Kabul have terminals and checkpoints here. Our technical team visits to inspect the vehicles, not only those with extra seats but also those with technical problems are checked."

Some citizens have requested the Ministry of Transport to also monitor the fares of urban passenger vehicles.

"A seat is for four people, but they make five people sit, which in this hot weather sometimes causes fights and disputes," said Ikramuddin, a resident of Kabul.

"It's a good initiative, it brings convenience to people, and they should also pay attention to the fares of the vehicles," said Ahmadullah, another resident of Kabul.

The lack of city buses, traffic congestion, and transport disorder in Kabul city are challenges that the capital's residents have continuously complained about in recent years.
