Massoud Pezeshkian Wins Iranian Presidential Election

The Iranian Election Headquarters has announced that Massoud Pezeshkian has become the ninth President of Iran, having received more than 16,384,403 votes.

In the second round of the presidential election, Massoud Pezeshkian competed against Saeed Jalili.

Mohsen Eslami, the spokesperson for the Iranian Election Headquarters, announced the election results, stating: "Accordingly, Massoud Pezeshkian is introduced as the elected President of the fourteenth presidential election of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

In the second stage of the fourteenth presidential election, Massoud Pezeshkian secured victory by obtaining 16,384,403 votes compared to his only rival, Saeed Jalili, who received 13,538,179 votes.

The newly elected president of Iran, Massoud Pezeshkian, said: "We will extend a hand of friendship to everyone, and everyone belongs to this country."

One of the Iranian citizens told TOLOnews: "To be honest, I hope inflation decreases and jobs become more accessible for the youth. That's all, I have no special feelings. I am happy that Mr. Pezeshkian was elected."

Hossein Imani, another Iranian citizen, said: "I currently have a positive feeling towards Pezeshkian, provided he fulfills the promises he has made."

A while ago, during his election campaigns, Massoud Pezeshkian had mentioned that in his future government, actions would be taken to close the borders to prevent the entry of Afghan immigrants into Iran and to establish procedures for Afghan migrants within the country.

Mansour, an Afghan migrant in Iran, told a TOLOnews reporter: "My request to the new president of Iran is to pay more attention to the migrants. We have been troubled a lot in recent years."

Previously, the Islamic Emirate had stated that whichever government comes to power in Iran, it will improve its relations with the interim government.

Aziz Maraj, an expert in international relations, told TOLOnews: "If it serves Iran's interests, Iran will build good relations with Afghanistan."

According to official statistics from the Iranian Election Headquarters, more than 61 million eligible voters participated in the election both inside and outside the country, with the voter turnout in the second round being approximately 49%.

Meanwhile, the 40% turnout in the first round of elections marked the lowest in the history of Iran's presidential elections.
