Drug Addict Number in Balkh Reduced By 10%: Professors

Several university professors holding a meeting in Balkh shared their research findings about the harm of drugs.

According to the professors, with the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate the number of addicted people decreased by 10% but still over 4 million addicted people are in the country.

Mohammad Amin Bayani, a university professor, said about this issue: “With the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate the number of drug addicts decreased by 10 %, the solution that the Islamic Emirate chose that was building hospitals in several provinces."

Mohammad Amin Ahadi, a university professor, said: "Due to a decrease in the number of addicted people we should serve them high-quality health services."

This program's organizers say they want to have a healthy and drug-free Afghanistan by launching a similar program.

Javed Najafizada, the organizer of the meeting, told TOLO News: "Our goal is to make our students aware of the very dangerous harm of drugs and to transmit this message to others until our society becomes a healthy society. Be healthy and stay away from drugs."

But the Balkh local officials pledged to wage a serious fight against smuggling, production, and consumption of drugs in this province.
Mohammad Esa Wasiq, spokesperson of the Balkh Security Command, said: "As a result of an operation all over of Balkh province, we arrested hundreds of people for the crime of drug cultivation and cleared thousands of acres of land from this unclean phenomenon.

Mohammad Kazem Tariq, the mayor of Mazar city, said: "This ominous phenomenon was transferred by Westerners, who want to defame our dear country."

Earlier several residents of the country expressed their concern about the smuggling, selling, and production of drugs and required officials of the Islamic Emirate to deal seriously with offenders and treat drug addicts.
