The funeral prayers of Gilaman Wazir, a poet and senior member of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), was held today (Friday) in Asad Khel, North Waziristan.
Manzoor Pashteen, the leader of the PTM, told supporters during the transfer of Gilaman Wazir's body from Islamabad to Waziristan that they would follow in Gilaman's footsteps.
Manzoor Pashteen, the leader of the PTM, stated: "Our fight is clear, and our enemy is clear."
"I ask this from all of Afghanistan, especially the Pashtuns, that the murderers of Wazir must be found," said Gul Ahmad, a resident of Logar.
Meanwhile, some Afghans in various countries held absentee funeral prayers for Gilaman Wazir.
"I have come today to participate in the funeral of a great martyr of Afghanistan who gave his life for the unity of Afghanistan and the unity of ethnic groups in Afghanistan," Emaratullah, a resident of Kabul, told TOLOnews.
"We plan to hold the funeral prayers for the national poet and Afghan martyr in major cities across five states in the USA," said Hezbollah Khan, an Afghan citizen in the United States.
The death of Gilaman Wazir sparked many domestic and international reactions. Some Afghans accompanied his body from Islamabad to North Waziristan, chanting various slogans about his death.
But why was Gilaman Wazir popular among the people?
"Gilaman was someone who always defended national honor and sanctity and bravely raised the voice that it is either Greater Afghanistan, prison, or death," said Sedaqat Sangar, a resident of Nangarhar.
Gilaman Wazir was attacked by unknown individuals in Islamabad on Sunday and sustained severe injuries, passing away after three days in the hospital.
The Pakistani government has yet to comment on the attack on Gilaman Wazir.
