Shakib: Afghan Refugees Should Not Be Victims of Political, Security Issues

Sardar Ahmad Shakib, the Charge d'Affaires of the Islamic Emirate in Pakistan, met with the Pakistani Minister of Refugees, Borders, and Tribes to discuss the situation of Afghan refugees.

The embassy of the Islamic Emirate in Pakistan stated that Shakib emphasized the important role of Afghan refugees in strengthening Pakistan's economy during this meeting and added that the refugee issue should not be linked to security and political matters.

Meanwhile, several Afghan refugees who had migrated to Pakistan for a better life are now being forced to return to their country.

They are asking the interim government of Pakistan to give them more time to return to Afghanistan.

A refugee said, "We need at least two to three years. Some have homes and shops here, work and business. We cannot ruin everything all at once. We will gradually go back voluntarily."

Another refugee said, "Our children were born here, our businesses are here, we were educated here. How can we go to that country? We cannot do this work or this trade there. Our entire lives have been spent here."

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation announced that in the past five days, more than nine thousand people have been returned from Iran and Pakistan to the country.

Mohammad Khan Talibi Mohammadzai, an activist for refugee rights, said, "As a responsible government, it must engage with neighboring and host countries to develop a sustainable national plan."

This comes as the Prime Minister of Pakistan extended the residence cards (POR) of Afghan refugees until June 30, 2025, during the cabinet meeting of this country.
