On Monday, severe storms and heavy rain destroyed dozens of greenhouses in the Farm Hadda canal area of Nangarhar province.
Greenhouse owners in Nangarhar called on authorities for assistance and to address the existing challenges.
One of the destroyed greenhouses, built with an investment of six million afghani by Zakirullah and Sher Agha, was among those affected.
Sher Agha told TOLOnews: "We had invested six million afghani here and put in a lot of effort. If it had borne fruit, it might have yielded two or three hundred thousand afghani."
Zakirullah, another affected individual, said: "We had set up a nursery here, and the calamity that struck yesterday destroyed everything."
Several other greenhouse owners in this farm are requesting that the Nangarhar Canal department officials cooperate with them regarding the lease for a period of time.
Sefatullah, another affected individual, had this request: "Forgive us the rent for two or three years. Hundreds of companies that took the canal lands, like us, have suffered losses."
Officials from the Nangarhar Canal department have said that they have started assessing the damages caused by the storms and rains on Monday in the canal areas and will cooperate with greenhouse owners and farmers.
Ghulam Rahman Kazem, the head of Nangarhar Canal, said: "The survey is ongoing to determine the extent of damage to trees, land, or our facilities, and to assess the amount of loss, which we will share with you."
This comes as severe storms and rain on Monday in Jalalabad and several districts of Nangarhar province have caused significant financial losses in addition to human casualties.
