The Kabul Municipality has reported the payment of 1.5 billion afghani for the expropriation of properties belonging to Kabul residents over the past nearly three years.
Nematullah Barakzai, a representative of Kabul municipality, also addressed concerns of some capital residents about the non-payment of expropriation money for their houses, stating that the expropriation money will be paid to those who are the rightful owners of the land after verification.
The spokesperson for the Kabul Municipality told TOLOnews: "Since the establishment of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, which has been about three years, the Kabul Municipality has paid over one and a half billion afghani in compensation for buildings to the people. This is a serious matter, and if the land is government-owned, the building owner receives compensation for the building, and if it is privately owned, they receive compensation for both the building and the land."
Meanwhile, some Kabul residents whose houses have been demolished for road expansion are worried about the non-payment of expropriation money by the municipality. These residents have said that they have lived in these houses for many years and now have no shelter.
"We are living in rental houses. We request that they pay us the compensation as soon as possible," Jan, a Kabul resident, told TOLOnews.
"If they pay the money a little earlier, it will reduce people's worries. It’s not the people's fault; they were indebted, and all the houses were mortgaged," said Kazem, another resident of Kabul.
Other residents of the capital have found road construction beneficial in reducing traffic congestion and have asked the Kabul Municipality to pay the compensation for their houses on time.
"On the one hand, we are happy that a road passes through this area; it's good, not bad. On the other hand, the people's houses have been destroyed, and they have suffered a lot. That's the reality," said Mohammad Musa, another resident of Kabul.
"As you can see, high-rise buildings have been destroyed in this area. Millions of dollars might have been spent on them. We ask the Islamic Emirate to pay the people's money," said Eid Mohammad, a resident of Kabul.
Earlier, the Kabul Municipality had said that in 1403 (solar year), it would implement 165 projects worth over 6.4 billion afghani in the capital. These projects are said to include road construction, canal building, and commercial areas.
