An Iranian army ground force commander has said that a plan to seal off the shared borders of Razavi Khorasan province with Afghanistan, stretching 300 kilometers, is being implemented.
According to this Iranian official, the height of the walls in this plan is set at four meters.
Some Iranian media outlets, quoting Ahmad Akbari, commander of the 444th Engineering Group of the Iranian Army Ground Force, wrote: “The walls in this plan each have a height of four meters, a length of 3 meters and 70 centimeters, and a thickness of 1 meter and 10 centimeters. To complete this national project, we have utilized all available opportunities in various fields.”
“Iran should work on the 909 kilometers of border it shares with Pakistan. Afghanistan has never caused problems for Iran,” said Mohammad Matin Mohammadkhail, a military analyst.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Energy, in a meeting with the acting Foreign Minister in Kabul, expressed hope that his country would receive more water from the Helmand River by the end of this year.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that an Iranian delegation, led by the Deputy Minister of Energy, discussed bilateral relations, Helmand River water, and cooperation in water projects with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Foreign Minister.
“If they claim, based on the treaty and agreement that was previously made, and using new technology, we can provide that amount of water to our friend country Iran,” Abdul Hasib Safi, an economic analyst, told TOLOnews.
Earlier, Ahmad Vahidi, Iran’s Minister of Interior, had announced the implementation of a plan to close parts of the country's borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan.
