Education Ministry to Hire 40,000 Teachers

The Ministry of Education has signed an agreement with the National Examination Authority to recruit new professional teachers for the ministry’s vacant positions.

Sebghatullah Waseel, the Deputy Minister of Education, said that the quality of education in Afghanistan is lower compared to the countries in the region and the world.

Waseel added that more than 40,000 new teachers are expected to be recruited for the Ministry of Education's vacant positions.

The Deputy Minister of Education stated: "Currently, the Kabul City Education Directorate has 2,000 vacant positions and the Kandahar Education Directorate has about 5,000 vacant positions, and there are figures from various provinces that we will review in due course."

Abdul Baqi Haqqani, the head of the National Examination Authority, said: "Today’s valuable meeting focuses on how the Ministry of Education can achieve this significant goal, and we will cooperate with them in achieving this goal."

Waseel added that some teachers have been hired in schools against their specializations, which has caused educational challenges in the country.

"There is a shortage of teachers, teachers are not appointed according to their specializations, and resources are distributed unequally and unjustly," said Waseel.

The Deputy Minister of Education said that since the return of the Islamic Emirate, this is the second time they have announced their vacant positions and emphasized that during this period no teacher has been appointed by decree, and all teachers have been recruited through examinations.
