Iranian Media: Tehran and Kabul Reach Agreement on Anti-Drug Measures

An Iranian delegation, after concluding their visit to Afghanistan, has announced an agreement between Tehran and Kabul for the exchange of information to combat drug trafficking.

Iranian media, citing Mohammad Zarei, Deputy Head of Iran’s Drug Control Headquarters, reported that the latest agreements between Kabul and Tehran include the sharing of experiences, provision of educational services, and the formation of joint committees in the field of drug control.

Zarei added: "The exchange of information regarding the fight against drug trafficking, the transfer of experiences in this area, the provision of educational services for combating drugs, and the establishment of joint committees for information exchange are the most recent agreements reached with the interim Afghan government. Afghan officials had also requested these measures."

Kamran Aman, a military affairs expert, said: "We hope the Islamic Emirate will pay more attention to the issue of drugs and eradicate it."

The Deputy Head of Iran’s Drug Control Headquarters emphasized that a serious and targeted fight against drugs will be carried out.

Meanwhile, some political experts praise the joint fight against drugs, adding that this cooperation will have a positive impact on the relations between the two countries.

Sayyed Moqadam Amin, a political affairs expert, stated: "This initiative can contribute to the security of both countries and help build trust between them."

The Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Emirate said that although no formal agreement has been made with Iran on this matter, they had previously assured that all forms of cultivation, production, and trafficking of drugs from Afghanistan would be prevented.
