The Directorate of Information and Culture of Badakhshan said that the presence of Marco Polo sheep, snow leopards, and dozens of species of domestic and wild animals in Pamir, Badakhshan, also known as the "Roof of the World," has drawn the attention of both local and foreign tourists.
According to officials of this directorate, Badakhshan, with its large lakes, high mountains, vast green plains, and natural scenery, is a suitable place for the growth of the tourism industry.
Chaqmaqtin Lake is also one of the tourist attractions of this province, located in the heart of the towering mountains of Little Pamir, stretching 17 kilometers in length and over three kilometers in width.
Zabihullah Amiri, the head of the Directorate of Information and Culture of Badakhshan, said, "Many foreign tourists visit this lake. Every foreigner who comes to Badakhshan aims to see Chaqmaqtin Lake."
Abdul Ahad, a resident of the Pamir district of Badakhshan, said, "Foreigners come every year, they visit, film, and then leave."
Pamir is home to rare wildlife, including the snow leopard, Marco Polo sheep, and dozens of rare bird species.
Zabihullah, a tourist, said, "The road to Pamir is in bad condition. The government should pay attention and rebuild it; it is an asset for the people."
According to statistics from the Badakhshan Environmental Protection Directorate, nearly 30 rare wildlife species and over 270 bird species live in the Pamirs.
Faiz Rahman Ebrahimi, the head of the Badakhshan Environmental Protection Directorate, said, "There are 26 types of wildlife in the Wakhan National Park, including Marco Polo sheep and Ibex, and 275 types of birds."
The Roof of the World was declared the second national park in the country in 2014 by the National Environmental Protection Agency of the former government.
