Serdar Berdimuhamedow, the president of Turkmenistan, said during the Central Asia-Germany summit in Kazakhstan that Afghanistan should be a member of the global community. He called on the international community to assist in transforming Afghanistan into a peaceful and valuable economic partner.
President Berdimuhamedow stressed that Central Asian countries and Germany should focus on these matters at both global and regional levels and increase their diplomatic relations with Afghanistan.
At the summit in Kazakhstan, Berdimuhamedow said: "We believe that the international community should cooperate with the Afghan people and fulfill its responsibilities. The global community should help Afghanistan become a stable, peaceful country and an economic partner. Afghanistan should be a member of the international community."
The Islamic Emirate praised the remarks of the President of Turkmenistan, stating that Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have good political and economic relations and efforts to expand these ties are ongoing.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, told TOLOnews: "Economically, Afghanistan is improving, but this situation requires cooperation from other countries, and Turkmenistan's stance is very valuable and positive."
Turkmenistan is one of the countries that maintained its relations with Afghanistan after the Islamic Emirate regained power and, during the ninth summit of the Organization of Turkic States, called for accelerating efforts to improve Afghanistan's situation.
"These countries emphasize that the international community should cooperate with the Islamic Emirate in all areas so that the current political and economic issues can be resolved, either through Doha or with the help of these countries," Sayed Akbar Sial Wardak, a political analyst, told TOLOnews.
"The more economic avenues open through economic channels, the more beneficial it can be for the involved countries. Afghanistan can serve as a bridge between Central and South Asia, and Turkmenistan can also benefit as a good transit route," said Abdulzuhoor Mudaber, an economic analyst.
Earlier, President Berdimuhamedow, during the inauguration ceremony of the TAPI project, also stated that Turkmenistan seeks to strengthen relations between Ashgabat and Kabul.
