Mujahid: UN Should Implement Positive Changes in Its Policy

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, in response to certain statements about Afghanistan at the United Nations General Assembly, said that the organization should bring about positive changes in its policy.

Mujahid said that the United Nations should properly fulfill its mission of engaging with Afghanistan's caretaker government. According to the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, there is a need for the world and countries to have good relations with the Islamic Emirate.

Zabihullah Mujahid said: "The United Nations must properly carry out its duty in this regard and move beyond its current stance, which prevents Afghanistan from progressing or having good relations with countries. There should be a positive change in their policy."

Joe Biden, the president of the United States, and Emomali Rahmon, the president of Tajikistan, referred to the situation in Afghanistan during their speeches on the first day of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The US President mentioned that the Afghanistan war had been passed down to him from three previous presidents, and he had to implement the decision to withdraw American forces from Afghanistan and end America's longest war. President Biden described the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan as difficult but correct.

Joe Biden said: "Afghanistan had replaced Vietnam as America's longest war. I was determined to end it, and I did, it was a hard decision but the right decision. Four American presidents had faced that decisionary, but I was determined to not leave that to the fifth.”

Emomali Rahmon, president of Tajikistan, also pledged his country’s support for peace and stability in Afghanistan during this session and called on the international community not to spare any effort in helping the people of Afghanistan to prevent a humanitarian crisis.

The president of Tajikistan said: "We support sustainable peace and stability, as well as economic and social progress in Afghanistan, our neighboring country. Tajikistan is always ready to agree to help Afghanistan with its assistance and to strengthen and develop a wide range of peaceful sectors of life. Following this, I repeatedly call on the international community not to spare any effort in helping the suffering people of Afghanistan, including areas affected by natural disasters, to prevent a humanitarian crisis in this war-torn country."

"The region is dependent on us. Central Asia has largely acknowledged this and, with strong initiatives and capabilities, is trying to come here [Afghanistan]. Afghanistan's economy will also stand on its feet, and the semi-completed projects will be resumed, benefiting not only us but also them," Mohammad Nabi Afghan, an economic expert, told TOLOnews.

The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly started on September 24th and will continue until September 28th.
