Siros Amanollahi, commander of Iran’s Northeastern Ground Forces, said the border closure project with Afghanistan will be completed in the next three years.
Siros Amanollahi also added that the length of this project along the shared border between Khorasan Razavi and Afghanistan is 300 kilometers, and four engineering groups from the army's ground forces are responsible for its implementation.
The commander of Iran’s Northeastern Ground Forces said: "The project to close the northeastern borders of the country with Afghanistan will be completed in three years through the efforts and capabilities of the engineering groups of the army's ground forces. The length of this project along the shared border between Khorasan Razavi and Afghanistan is 300 kilometers, and engineering groups 444, 433, 411, and 455 from the army's ground forces are responsible for executing this plan along the Afghan border."
Meanwhile, some military and political experts do not consider the establishment of a border closure between the two neighboring countries to be beneficial, adding that the two countries should foster good relations based on trust-building.
"Along the borders, in specific checkpoints, to prevent threats, they have the right to take action," said Hadi Quraishi, a military expert.
"No wall or barrier anywhere in the world has been able to ensure the security and stability of any government. Rather, good governance and friendly relations with neighboring countries ensure border security," said Fazl Rahman Orya, a political analyst.
Although the Islamic Emirate has not recently commented on this issue, it had previously stated that Iran has the right to implement the border closure project with Afghanistan, and that the project is being carried out with the agreement and coordination of the Islamic Emirate.
