Chaman Protest Movement Threatens to Block Highways, Govt Offices

Members of the Chaman Protest Movement have warned the Pakistani government that if their demands are not met, they will block government offices and public highways.

They also stated that local officials in the area have started efforts to undermine the movement’s demands; however, the movement will continue its struggle until its goals are achieved.

Abdul Khaliq Haqmal, a leader of the Chaman Protest Movement, said: “For us, anyone who creates obstacles to open the road is no different from the British, Punjabis, or our enemies. They are enemies of us and the people.”

Sadiq Khan Achakzai, the spokesperson for the Chaman Protest Movement, declared: “Let everyone hear that we can no longer wait. Everything has become clear to us as to who does not want this road opened.”

For over thirteen months, protests have erupted in the town of Chaman in response to the imposition of visa and passport requirements at the Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossing.

Wali Muhammad, another member of the Chaman Protest Movement, stated: “We have taken every necessary action and will take further serious measures. If anyone interferes in our situation, we will block roads and banks.”

Meanwhile, sources in Chaman have told TOLOnews that meetings have been held between nationalist parties and Pakistani government officials to resume movement for local workers and residents on both sides of the Durand Line at the Chaman-Spin Boldak crossing, with results expected soon.
