Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, leader of Pakistan's Jamaat-e-Islami party, underscored the critical importance of improving relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He asserted that addressing the current challenges between the two nations would greatly benefit both countries' security and economic stability, emphasizing that these issues should be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Speaking to reporters, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said, “It is the responsibility of the Pakistani government to strengthen its relations with Afghanistan and resolve issues through dialogue. To reduce US influence in the region, it is essential for China, Russia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, and the Central Asian countries to come together and establish strong relations. This would benefit both regional security and economic development. We are hearing concerning reports from the Afghan border, and these are not favorable at all.”
In a related statement, Asad Qaiser, a member of Pakistan’s National Assembly, criticized Islamabad for creating obstacles in trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan, saying that these issues have caused economic challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and must be addressed. He added, “In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, all of our trade with Afghanistan has been cut off. Our entire livelihood, our daily bread, and all our dependencies relied on trade with Afghanistan. You have severed economic ties with them. Now, we have a disorganized war-driven economy here, and if you want to bring order to this situation, large-scale projects are necessary. An industrial zone needs to be established here.”
Several analysts emphasized the economic significance of Afghan-Pakistan relations and underscored the urgency of addressing the ongoing challenges.
Basir Tareki, a political analyst, told TOLOnews, “The damage is not limited to Pakistan; Afghanistan is also affected. We must hold a meeting at the earliest opportunity and reach an understanding on improving trade relations.”
Previously, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman had similarly emphasized the importance of meaningful dialogue to address the current issues between Kabul and Islamabad in a press conference.
