In continuation of previous protests, a group of retirees once again gathered today (Saturday) in front of the Pension Fund building to demand their unpaid pensions.
The retirees told TOLOnews that with winter approaching, they are facing numerous challenges. During today’s gathering, they called on the Islamic Emirate to expedite the payment of their pensions.
Abdul Wasi, a retiree, told TOLOnews: “Retirees have no bread, no water. Their children have resorted to hard labor, selling vegetables or secondhand goods on the streets, but even there they are harassed by the municipality. If they try to beg, the police arrest them.”
Ghulam Ehsan, another retiree, said: “It’s been over three years since they received their pensions. Each one of them has families of five to ten members to support.”
Sayed Sahib Shah, another retiree, said: “Aid is flowing in from all sides, and resources are being extracted. Doesn’t this government have the means to pay us our pensions? Are we not from this land or country? They should pay our pensions.”
The Islamic Emirate has not recently commented on this demand, which retirees have repeatedly raised. In the past, retirees have also protested outside the United Nations office in Kabul over unpaid pensions, urging UNAMA to step in to address the issue.
