Noorullah Ansar, the Director-General for Natural Disasters and Firefighting, reported that a fire broke out on Saturday night at a gas company in the Qala-e-Haidar Khan area of Paghman district of Kabul, resulting in 6 deaths and injuries to 9 others.
According to Ansar, the spread of the fire was controlled, but the exact cause of the fire and the total financial losses remain unclear.
The Director-General of Natural Disasters and Firefighting stated: "The current death toll is between five and six people; I believe it is not above seven, and there are around nine injuries. The financial damages have not yet been finalized."
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority provided initial figures, reporting two fatalities and 26 injuries. According to officials from this department, the fire in Qala-e-Haidar Khan has caused over $1.2 million dollars in damage.
Some eyewitnesses shared their observations and called on the interim government to take action.
"Our request from the government is to relocate gas companies farther away from the city, as similar incidents have happened before," said Sharif, a witness to the incident.
"The situation began at night; one gas canister would explode, the fire would be extinguished, then another canister would explode, creating a new situation. As you saw, there are a large number of gas cylinders there," said Fazlullah Tokhi, the regional control officer of Paghman district.
Some employees of these companies said they have incurred tens of thousands of dollars in losses due to the fire.
"Three people were martyred, and only three people from our company were injured," said Jafar Niazi, the head of one of the companies.
The fire started on Saturday evening, around 5:30 PM, and continued until 4 AM on Sunday, resulting in damage to several companies, including a gas company, a basket-making company, and others.
