Vice and Virtue Ministry Calls SIGAR Report ‘Far From the Truth’

The Ministry of Vice and Virtue has described the recent report by the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) as far from reality.

Saif-ul-Islam Khaibar, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that public freedoms and women’s rights in the country have not been violated. He added that the ministry has worked to restore women’s rights that had been taken away by customs and traditions.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Vice and Virtue said: “The SIGAR report, like previous ones, is far from the truth and is based on baseless accusations. No freedoms or women’s rights have been violated or rescinded; rather, the Ministry of Vice and Virtue has worked to restore those rights of women that had been denied under meaningless customs and stigmas in this society.”

He further stated that SIGAR’s criticisms of the ministry’s law reflect a lack of awareness about it.

In this regard, Saif-ul-Islam Khaibar said: “If they claim that the Ministry of Vice and Virtue has abolished women’s freedoms, it means they are unaware of our Charter and Law on the Promotion of Virtue, which are derived from the foundations of Islam, including the Quran, Hadith, and jurisprudence.”

“To convince the international community, establishing a constitution is essential,” said Naseer Shafiq, a political analyst.

Earlier, the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, in its latest report, stated that the new law of the Ministry of Vice and Virtue imposes restrictions on human rights and the fundamental freedoms of public life.
