27 Afghan Migrants Arrested in Turkey

Turkish media have reported that 27 Afghan nationals attempting to enter the coastal city of Çanakkale, Türkiye, were arrested and transferred to the city's migrant return center.

Meanwhile, some Afghan migrants residing in Türkiye have told TOLOnews that they face severe economic and social challenges in the country, with little to no support from organizations assisting migrants in Türkiye.

Afghan migrants have further noted that restrictions on migrants in Türkiye have significantly increased.

Ahmad Yurtash, an Afghan migrant in Türkiye, described the challenges, stating: "Those who have come and are staying illegally are arrested by Türkiye's migration department and transferred to camps. After weeks or even months, following several days of detention, they are deported back to Afghanistan."

Mohammad Jamal Muslim, another Afghan migrant in Türkiye, added: "Afghans living in Türkiye today are enduring some of the hardest days in history. They suffer from unemployment, poverty, lack of resources, absence of proper documentation, lack of support from the migration department, and the absence of health insurance."

In recent months, arrests and restrictions on Afghan migrants have intensified in neighboring and regional countries, including Türkiye.

Senior officials of the Islamic Emirate have repeatedly called on host countries to refrain from mistreating Afghan migrants.

Ali Reza Karimi, an activist for migrants’ rights, told TOLOnews: "International organizations should support Türkiye and enhance humanitarian services. Türkiye must respect migrants' rights and increase social support for them."

Previously, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation reported the deportation of more than 300 Afghan migrants from Türkiye on the 18th and 19th of Aqrab (November) this year.
