Land Distribution to Refugees Commences in Daikundi

The Commission for Addressing Refugee Affairs and Problems in Daikundi Province has begun the process of distributing land to returnee refugees.

Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Defense and a member of the commission emphasized that the Islamic Emirate is working to address the challenges faced by refugees.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of this process, he said: "We are inaugurating the township allocated here for refugees so that the distribution process can begin. Refugees who had no land or home and have returned to the country from abroad should find shelter, and homes should be built for them."

On Sunday, the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing also announced that over 28,000 jeribs of land in nine provinces have been designated for refugees.

However, the ministry criticized the lack of cooperation from institutions and countries in constructing refugee townships.

"The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, based on the list of families and their respective provinces, provides one jerib of land for residence in their provinces. However, in provinces like Nuristan, where land for constructing refugee townships is unavailable, townships for them will be built in nearby zones within other provinces,” stated Kamal Afghan, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing.

Nevertheless, economic experts stress that merely distributing land cannot resolve the challenges faced by refugees.

"If employment opportunities are not created for refugees and if adequate support for shelter is not provided by the government and international organizations, these refugees will once again turn to illegal migration, “said Abdul Naseer Rishtia, one such expert.

The land designated by the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing is in the provinces of Kabul, Ghazni, Uruzgan, Farah, Kandahar, Jawzjan, Samangan, Bamyan, and Panjshir.
