Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister, and Faisal Bin Talaq Al-Baqmi, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Kabul in a recent meeting discussed expanding bilateral relations and providing consular services to Afghans residing in Saudi Arabia.
In the meeting, the acting foreign minister requested Saudi Arabia increase the Hajj quota for Afghan citizens and cooperate in providing consular services to Afghans living in Saudi Arabia. Amir Khan Muttaqi also described Afghanistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia as valuable and historic.
Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said about the meeting: "He emphasized that exchanges of delegations between the two countries should be increased. The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs also called on the Saudi government to increase the Hajj and Umrah quotas for Afghans and to assist in providing consular services to Afghans living in Saudi Arabia."
Twenty days ago, the Saudi embassy resumed its diplomatic activities in Afghanistan.
"Our relations with Muslim countries are beneficial. If Islamic countries cooperate with us, our government will also be recognized," Amanullah Hotaki, a political analyst, told TOLOnews.
"Saudi Arabia aligns its stances in global issues with the US, and on the other hand, Afghanistan, as an Islamic country, needs more consular services since the Hajj and Umrah rituals are performed in Saudi Arabia," Naser Shafiq, another political analyst, told TOLOnews.
Amir Khan Muttaqi traveled to the United Arab Emirates last week and discussed economic issues with India’s Deputy Foreign Minister, the UAE Foreign Minister, and the UAE Minister of Economy.
