Araghchi: Iran's Security Depends on Stability in Afghanistan

A delegation from Iran, led by Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the country's foreign minister, made a one-day visit to Kabul and met with various officials of the Islamic Emirate, including Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund and the acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

During these meetings, Araghchi emphasized that Iran's security and stability are dependent on the security and stability of Afghanistan.

In addition, issues related to Afghan migrants in Iran, water rights, Iran's non-interference policy in Afghanistan's internal affairs, and resolving challenges through dialogue were among the topics discussed and exchanged between the two sides.

Hamdullah Fitrat, the deputy spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, said: "Araghchi stated that Iran's security and stability depend on Afghanistan's security and stability. He also mentioned that recent developments in Afghanistan have led them to the conclusion that they should enhance their cooperation with the Islamic Emirate."

Janat Faheem Chakari, a political analyst, said: "This visit indicates that there are critical issues that have remained unresolved for the past three and a half years, and the Iranian foreign minister is seeking a solution for them."

The Iranian foreign minister stated that resolving the challenges faced by Afghan migrants and the water rights issue should strengthen relations between the two countries. Abbas Araghchi added that Iran is committed to the dignified return of Afghan migrants to their homeland.

Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: "The acting Foreign Minister stated that climate change has caused drought across the region, and Afghanistan is also a victim of these conditions. He mentioned that we consider the people of Helmand, Nimroz, Sistan, and Baluchistan equally and strive to ensure water reaches both sides. This issue has no other obstacles and depends solely on rainfall levels."

In a separate meeting with Islamic Emirate's acting Foreign Minister, the Iranian Foreign Minister stressed that this visit could pave the way for a new chapter in bilateral relations.

The acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi also mentioned in the meeting that given the commonalities between the two countries, diplomatic relations should be elevated.

Aslam Danishmal, a university scholar, stated: "We should move forward with Iran and other countries based on an economy-focused policy."

This comes after some senior officials of the Islamic Emirate, including the former Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, and the Acting Foreign Minister, visited Iran last year.
