Bikdeli Stresses Strengthening Borders, Boosting Trade with Afghanistan

Alireza Bikdeli, the acting ambassador of Iran in Kabul, has described strengthening and expanding borders to facilitate the movement of people between the two countries and developing trade relations between Kabul and Tehran as one of his country’s key policies regarding Afghanistan.

Bikdeli emphasized that the development of border provinces and the standardization of border roads through mutual cooperation will enhance relations between the two countries.

The acting ambassador of Iran in Kabul said: "As part of the policy of the Islamic Republic, we believe that all communication routes between us and you must be suitable for the movement of people, trade of merchants, and transportation of vehicles between the two countries."

During his visit to Farah province and meetings with local officials, Alireza Bikdeli said that efforts to expand trade relations with Kabul and ensure Afghanistan’s representation at Chabahar Port are ongoing.

Abdulzohor Madbar, an economic affairs expert, said: "Considering that Afghanistan is a landlocked country, Chabahar Port can connect us to open waters. Therefore, having proper economic, strategic, and even political relations with Iran can benefit both Afghanistan and Iran. Overall, negotiations and discussions in the initial phase can aim to achieve this goal."

Mohammad Asif Stanakzai, another economic affairs expert, said: "Iran has full cooperation with Afghanistan in global trade and has been compelled to invest in various sectors in Afghanistan. In return, Iran should provide Afghanistan with a special status at Chabahar Port."

Previously, India’s Ministry of External Affairs also highlighted the importance of Chabahar Port for enhancing regional connectivity in Jawza of this solar year, stating that the port, in addition to providing humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan, will also be used to develop trade with Central Asian countries.
