A number of retirees once again gathered in protest in front of the Pension Fund Office, demanding their salaries.
They stated that during Ramadan and for over the past two years, they have been struggling with economic challenges and urged the Islamic Emirate to take serious action on this issue.
Sardar Mohammad, a 65-year-old former colonel who now carries plastic water jugs on his shoulders for sale, spoke about his hardships: "Believe me, we have nothing to eat. Some people give charity in disposable containers, and I take that home to my family. That’s how we survive day and night."
"We come here while fasting, yet no senior official bothers to ask why we are here and what we want," another retiree, Amarkhil, told TOLOnews.
For the past three and a half years, this group has been advocating in front of the Ministry of Finance to receive their salaries, demanding payment of their dues and relief from economic hardships.
"We only want the salaries deducted from our wages. This is not charity; it is my rightful salary. Have you ever seen any Islamic or non-Islamic country where a retiree is denied their pension?" said Habibullah, another retiree.
Meanwhile, on the 1st of Jadi this year, the leader of the Islamic Emirate issued a decree instructing the Supreme Court to find a solution for the pension payments and hold a special court session. However, despite two and a half months passing, no specific timeline has been set for the retirees’ payments.
