The National Disaster Management Authority told TOLOnews that heavy rainfall and floods over the past month have claimed the lives of 80 people across the country and injured more than 100 others.
According to the ministry's data, over 1,800 houses and 3,000 acres of farmland have been destroyed due to these floods and heavy rains.
Janan Saiq, the spokesperson for the authority, said: "According to reports from the provincial offices of the National Disaster Management Authority, in the past month, natural disasters in several provinces have resulted in the deaths of 80 of our fellow citizens, with more than 100 others injured."
Nisar Ahmad Nejat, head of the disaster management authority in Paktia, spoke about a specific incident in the province: "At 9 pm last night, a lightning strike hit a house in Sayed Karam district, injuring five people and killing one person."
Afghanistan is an agricultural country, but the lack of a proper farming system has made farmers more vulnerable to natural disasters.
Meanwhile, the Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock has called for aid to be provided to the affected provinces.
Mirwais Haji Zada, the first deputy of the Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock, said: "A farmer's wealth is his crops. Since the floods have destroyed their lands, they need financial support. A survey should be conducted, and the government, institutions, and development banks should compensate for the losses in each province and district."
At the same time, some of the affected people are calling on the Islamic Emirate and relief organizations for help.
Momin, one of the victims of these natural disasters, said: "I ask the Islamic Emirate to help us because our house has been destroyed."
Mahmood, a farmer in Sar-e-Pul, said: "The floods have caused a lot of destruction in this area. Our lands have been ruined, and no assistance has been provided so far."
In recent years, Afghan citizens have faced droughts due to climate change, while, on the other hand, flooding in some areas has severely impacted people, especially farmers.
