Mufti Munir Shakir Laid to Rest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The funeral of Mufti Munir Shakir, a renowned scholar from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was held at 3 PM local time in Peshawar.

Shakir was injured in an explosion yesterday while entering a mosque. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries there.

Mufti Munir Shakir was widely known for his strong and critical speeches.

A spokesperson for LRH hospital stated, “He was brought here in an injured state along with three other wounded individuals, but unfortunately, Mufti Munir Shakir passed away in the hospital.”

Previously, he had spoken about the security threats he faced and had accused the Pakistani government of negligence in addressing them.

Mufti Munir Shakir’s son stated, “We repeatedly said that we were in danger. All my firearm documents are with the Deputy Commissioner of Hangu, and he deliberately tied my hands, leaving me unable to take any action to prevent this martyrdom.”

Members of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) announced that they would decide on their future course of action after the funeral.

Hanif Pashteen, a senior PTM leader, remarked: “This was not just an attack on Mufti Shakir Sahib. It was an attack on Islam, on our sacred religion, and on our historic Pashtun nation.”

So far, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Mufti Munir Shakir.
