Start of Survey and Design of Four Major Dams in 1404

The Ministry of Energy and Water has announced that in the year 1404 (solar year), the survey and design work of four major dams will begin in the provinces of Takhar, Ghazni, Herat, and Baghlan.

The management of some water sources in Afghanistan has been among the long-standing issues that, due to various challenges, has not seen significant progress over the years.

"It is worth mentioning that the budget for these dams has also been allocated to the Ministry of Energy and Water, and their practical survey and design will begin this year,” stated Matiullah Abid, spokesperson of the ministry.

Some experts consider the construction of dams in various parts of the country an important step toward water resource management, agricultural development, and energy production.

Amanullah Ghalib, former head of the Breshna company, noted: "In Afghanistan, we have various types of dams whether for water storage, irrigation, drinking water, or electricity generation. The Ministry of Energy and Water has a duty to work on these projects using investments and development programs."

"The construction of dams, canals, and check dams is a sign of sound management. Afghanistan needs such projects to overcome economic challenges,” said Abdul Ghafar Nezami, an expert in economic affairs.

While work on some large hydro projects is currently underway in the country, citizens expect the interim government officials to make greater efforts to attract domestic and foreign investments to create employment and enable economic progress in the country.
