The families of two British citizens who are detained by the Islamic Emirate have appealed to Donald Trump, the US President, to help secure their release.
In a video message, the families of the British couple said that they have been promised their release multiple times; however, they still remain detained in Afghanistan. They claim that the couple has been imprisoned in Afghanistan without committing any crime.
Jonathan Reynolds, the son of Peter Reynolds, stated in the video: “They have been held in a prison in Afghanistan by the Taliban without charges for the last 8 weeks. We are continuously told that they have done nothing wrong, they have committed no crime and they will be released shortly, but still they remain in jail.”
According to the family, the British couple was arrested on February 1 this year in Bamyan, along with US citizen Faye Hall and their Afghan interpreter. The grandson and son of the couple have asked Donald Trump to assist in their release.
Jonathan Reynolds added: “Last week you were somehow able to get Faye Hall out of the country and back to the United States. I'm standing here asking and appealing to you to help get my parents out of that jail. They have 13 American citizen grandkids, great grandkids and children.”
The interim government has not recently commented on the matter, but previously, the Ministry of Interior had stated that the two British citizens and US citizen Faye Hall were detained for specific reasons, and efforts were ongoing to resolve their cases.
Faye Hall was released last Saturday with Qatari mediation and returned to the United States.
