The Supreme Court of the Islamic Emirate announced that Qisas (an Islamic term interpreted to mean retaliation in kind) has been implemented with the execution of four individuals in the provinces of Badghis, Farah, and Nimroz.
According to the court, the four individuals were convicted of murder through court rulings.
The spokesperson for the Supreme Court said that two of the convicts were executed in Qala-e-Naw, the capital of Badghis province. The Chief Justice of the Islamic Emirate, Abdul Hakim Haqqani, along with local officials and residents, were present during the executions.
Court spokesperson Abdul Rahim Rashid said: “Today, Friday, Qisas punishment was carried out against four murderers in the provinces of Badghis, Nimroz, and Farah, based on the decisions of Islamic Emirate courts.”
Religious scholar Abdul Rahman Chakari emphasized the importance of careful verification in such cases: “If intentional murder is proven, with witnesses and the use of a weapon capable of killing, and if the judge is qualified and free from bias, then Allah says: ‘In Qisas, there is life for you.’”
The Court added that the punishments were implemented after all three levels of judicial review were completed and following final approval from the leader of the Islamic Emirate.
It further noted that, under the leader’s instruction, an extraordinary review was also conducted as a final precaution. The families of the victims were given the opportunity to pardon the convicts, but after they refused, the Sharia-based punishment of Qisas was carried out.
Another religious scholar, Fazl Hadi Wazin, stated: “The implementation of Qisas is necessary for society to deter others from committing murder. But the competence of the judge and judiciary is very important.”
Legal expert Mohammad Asif Faqiri also said: “The judiciary is an inseparable and irreplaceable part of a country. In such cases, the criminal code must reflect the will of the people or their representatives.”
Previously, the Supreme Court of the Islamic Emirate said that it would not submit to any international pressure in enforcing Sharia law. Officials from the court have urged the international community to refrain from negative propaganda against the implementation of Islamic rulings.
