The 8th of Saur marks the 33rd anniversary of the Mujahideen’s victory over the Soviet-backed government in Afghanistan.
Thirty-three years ago, on the 8th of Saur 1371 (solar calendar), the Mujahideen, consisting of various factions, succeeded after fourteen years of struggle in overthrowing the last communist regime led by Dr. Najibullah and taking power.
Sayed Ishaq Gailani, a political analyst, said: "We must never sacrifice the Afghan nation. The people of Afghanistan, for the sake of their freedom and in the name of Allah, offered one and a half million martyrs against the Soviet Red Army."
Meanwhile, following the Mujahideen’s rise to power, internal conflicts broke out, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries, and forcing millions to migrate to other countries.
Moeen Gul Samkani, another political analyst, said: "When the Mujahideen arrived in Kabul, they did not have a clear and organized plan. Unfortunately, they had established a council in Peshawar, deciding that Sibghatullah Mojaddedi would serve as interim president for three months, followed by Burhanuddin Rabbani for six months, after which a Loya Jirga would be convened to elect a new government."
The Islamic Emirate described the 8th of Saur as a historic day of freedom and national pride and has called on citizens to remain committed to building a stable Afghanistan under an Islamic system.
