Local Officials, Residents of Parwan: People Urgently Need Humanitarian Aid

Local authorities in Parwan have expressed concern over the suspension of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, saying that many residents of the province are currently in urgent need of assistance.

According to officials, over 11,000 families in Parwan received food aid last year, but this year, the level of assistance has significantly decreased.

Abdul Samad Sadiq, head of Rural Development in Parwan, told TOLOnews: “People today are facing many problems. In the early years of the Islamic Emirate's rule, there was a lot of aid, but over time it has declined, and our people are now struggling with economic hardship.”

Meanwhile, several residents of Parwan have called for the resumption of humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.

Bismillah, an elderly man who repairs shoes on the streets of Charikar city, says he is in desperate need of humanitarian support but has not received any assistance so far.

Speaking about his challenges, he said: “We have received no aid — not even seen flour or rice. Thousands like me are wandering the city hungry and in need.”

Ghulam Dastagir, another resident of Parwan, shared: “I saw a woman during winter collecting plastic from the roadside. I asked her why she was doing it. She said, ‘To warm my house because we don’t have any fuel.’”

Abdul Samad, also a resident of Parwan, told TOLOnews: “There is no work, no labor opportunities, and people are in a very difficult situation.”

This comes as some economic experts warn that if aid from the United States and international organizations is not resumed, the number of families in need of humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan will rise sharply.
