Acting Justice Minister Heads to Russia for Global Legal Forum

Abdul Hakim Sharaei, acting minister of justice, has departed for Russia to attend the 13th International Legal Forum in St. Petersburg.

The ministry’s spokesperson stated that Sharaei is scheduled to deliver a speech at the forum on the structure of legal systems, the necessity of reforms in international law, the pursuit of justice, and the caretaker government's stance on international engagement.

Barkatullah Rasooli, spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice, said: “At this legal forum, ministers of justice, judicial authorities, and legal experts from various countries will participate, and the Minister of Justice of the Islamic Emirate will speak on the structure of laws, the need for reforms in international law, ensuring justice, and the Islamic Emirate’s position on international interactions.”

The three-day forum is set to begin on Monday this week in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Ministers of justice, judicial officials, and legal experts from a variety of countries are expected to participate.

Some experts have expressed differing views regarding the presence of the acting minister of justice at this event.

Mohammad Aslam Danishmal, a university professor, said: “Participation of the acting minister of justice of the Islamic Emirate in this forum is highly important and necessary. Greater attention must be paid to legal issues that are evident in Afghanistan’s current legal system, and practical solutions should be proposed.”

Mohammad Asif Faqiri, a legal expert, stated: “Participation of Islamic Emirate representatives in legal forums to present their views and plans on the rule of law is commendable; however, so far, no serious steps have been observed in this regard from the Islamic Emirate.”

Previously, the acting minister of justice had also participated in an international conference titled “Building Bridges Between Islamic Sects” in Mecca, where he emphasized expanding relations with all countries, especially Islamic nations.
