13 Soldiers Killed in Kandahar Attack: Source

At least 13 security force members and eight Taliban insurgents were killed in clashes in southern Kandahar province on Wednesday night, a security source confirmed on Thursday

In addition, eight other soldiers were wounded in the clash.

The clash started at about 10pm local time on Wednesday in Maiwand district of the province after dozens of insurgents attacked a military base, according to the source.

“The Taliban fled the area after the attack,” he said.

However, local security officials have not yet commented on the attack.

Insurgents recently increased their attacks on military bases in the country which has taken a heavy toll on soldiers.

This is the Taliban's fourth attack on a military facility in two months.

The first attack was on Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital in Kabul, which resulted in the death of about 50 people, while the second was on the 209 Shaheen military corps in Balkh last month – at least 150 soldiers were killed.

The third one was on Shah Wali Kot district base in Kandahar on Monday night which killed at least 11 soldiers.
