At least 16 Taliban insurgents were killed during a clash with National Directorate of Security (NDS) forces in western Farah province, the NDS said in a statement late Saturday.
In addition, nine other insurgents were wounded.
The clashes took place in Farah Road district of the province after a convoy of NDS forces were ambushed by the Taliban insurgents, the statement said, adding that “the clashes lasted for half an hour.”
“The Taliban escaped from the area after suffering heavy casualties,” it added.
However, the statement did not provide further details.
The Taliban have not yet commented over the clashes.
