17 Security Check Posts Fall To Taliban in Takhar

At least 17 security check posts fell to the Taliban in Khwaja Ghar district of northeastern Takhar province on Monday, provincial council members confirmed.

This happened after Taliban insurgents attacked the district on Monday, taking control of ten villages. Insurgents have reportedly advanced close to the district governor’s compound, according to provincial council members.

In the meantime, Nezamuddin Ghori, a police security official from Takhar has confirmed the collapse of seven police check posts to the Taliban, adding that “the police retreated from the check posts due to not having support and currently clashes are ongoing.”

The residents of Takhar have called on the central government to take the problems in the province seriously.

The provincial council members also warned government “that if government does not pay attention to the district, the Taliban will also take control of the center of the district.”

The Taliban has confirmed that it has taken control of 17 check posts and claims a number of security forces were killed, injured or fled the area.
