20 ANA Soldiers Graduate From Special Training Course

The Resolute Support Mission (RS) in the western part of the country has accelerated its training for the Afghan National Army and on Sunday said the second round of a special training program wrapped up in Herat.  

Twenty Afghan National Army personnel graduated from a four-week special training program conducted by RS trainers. The soldiers learned how to deal with insurgents hiding out in residential areas and how to target them when they use houses as strongholds. 

RS commander for the western region of Afghanistan Massimo Biagini said at the graduation ceremony that NATO is committed in thelong-term to support and train the Afghan army.

“We will continue to support and train Afghan forces and as they are committed to defending Afghanistan, we are committed to continuing our support to them,” said Biagini.

The soldiers were trained by Italian instructors at the RS headquarters in Herat where they learned how to counter insurgent attacks in residential areas and how to track insurgents through mountainous areas. 

“RS forces in addition to training Afghan security forces also provide us air support. Recently we carried out two air operations in coordination with the RS in Farah and achieved good results,” said General Nasir Hedayat, commander of 207th Zafar Military Corps. 

The graduates said following the intense training sessions they are now ready to fight insurgents in any situation. 

“We received good training and now we are ready for any type of operation in any part of the country,” Burhanuddin, a soldier said. 

“We are ready to participate in any type of operation and are ready to defend the country against the insurgents until our last drop of blood,” Haroon, another soldier said.
