'27' Afghan Forces Killed in Taliban Attack in Laghman: Source

Update: At least 27 ANA soldiers have been killed and several military vehicles were destroyed after the Taliban attacked a convoy and security post in Alishing District of Laghman Province in the east of Afghanistan last night, a source told TOLOnews. 9 soldiers are missing.

 The attack happened on Sunday night, said the  Ministry of Defense (MoD) in a statement on Monday.

The Taliban attacked a security checkpoint in Alishing district and clashed with security forces, the MoD said.

The MoD said that the Taliban attack was pushed back by the Afghan forces, and claimed the Taliban had sustained "heavy casualties.”

In the meantime, Gulzar Sangarwal Neyazi, a member of the provincial council, said that at least 22 Afghan security forces were killed in the attack.

“Dozens of vehicles of security forces were damaged in the attack,” he said.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and said they killed 24 soldiers and destroyed 13 military tanks.
